Next Guest Author Readup - Guinevere - At the Dawn of Legend by Cheryl Carpinello

Join Brad Swift and I for our next Guest author readup, next week @ 10 MT, 12 ET. I'll be reading chapters of Cheryl Carpinello's book, Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend.

Here's a bit of a preview for you:

What inspired you to start writing? I’m a daydreamer and always have been. Writing on paper the stories in my head naturally followed, but not until I had graduated college. Many of those early stories will never see the light of day! I dabbled in poetry when I was teaching British Lit. mainly to give my students examples for their writing. It wasn’t until I retired from teaching that I found time to actually write the stories that I love to read.

What was the inspiration for writing Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend? At the Dawn of Legend was never going to be. I wrote Guinevere: On the Eve of Legend for the sole purpose of introducing young readers to Arthurian Legend and the young princess was poised to be a legend herself. However, my two characters, Guinevere and her friend Cedwyn, just wouldn’t leave me alone. Over the years—close to 7—these two constantly interrupted my writing. Cedwyn demanded that I make him the knight he was promised in On the Eve of Legend. Guinevere repeatedly informed me that I needed to finish their story. So that’s what I did. Except that instead of one book, I ended up writing another, Guinevere: The Legend, to bring their story to a close.

What is something quirky or unusual that readers would find interesting or endearing? About me: A bit of Guinevere and Cedwyn can be found in me. I can be impulsive and stubborn. I’m also fiercely loyal.

What are some of the universal themes explored in your book? Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend (book 2 of the Guinevere trilogy) is a medieval tale of two friends and of a fierce loyalty to friends, family, duty, and country that was not often seen then or now.

If you love Rick Riordan and his Heroes of Olympus and Kane Chronicles, you will enjoy Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend. If you love Karen Cushman and her Medieval and European Fiction books, you will enjoy Guinevere: At the Dawn of Legend.
